Prayer for Teachers
Great, heavenly father, this is a time of celebration. We are proud of our students, and see them as a new generation of heroes, on their way to make a difference. And as we celebrate, we thank you for helping us on this journey.
You have given us the peace to face challenges, make brave decisions, and even just stand in front of a class. You have given us the joy of daily walking with you, and the joy of receiving such a special calling.
We also acknowledge, on this day, that you are the Master Teacher, the greatest who ever lived. You taught the disciples, and the crowds, and us, the words of truth and life. We humbly ask that you help us to be teachers like you:
May we make truth memorable, and contagious, and satisfying.
May we give great lessons, but also patiently explain them to those who tried but did not understand.
May we embrace the crowd, breaking knowledge into bite-size pieces, but also embrace the loner, and ask “who touched me”.
May we tell stories, ask hard questions, and bend down to wash feet.
May we love the Scriptures, and know them.
May we be aware of the pacings of life, and trust your timing.
May we seek out that solitary place, in order that you may renew us.
May we see people for who they can become, not just who they are.
May we be interruptable, and even plan on being interrupted.
May we be shepherds of the 99, but still seek out the one.
May we help all 10, even if only one returns to thanks us.
And may we carry our cross all the way to the finish, and be resurrected into your presence. – Amen.
I had no idea you had started this blog! I teared up reading this prayer.
I so look forward to following your devos. I know they made a difference in my life as a student, and I know they continue to challenge and support your current students.
